Budget Review Avon Naturals Strawberry & Guava shower gel

Quite some time ago I talked about the body spray from this range, all of this range's products are priced at around 3euros. For this price you get a 200ml shower gel that is as red as the strawberries on the picture...

A fruity infusion of ripe, juicy strawberry & exotic guava.
Gently cleanses, leaving skin feeling refreshed.

INGREDIENTS:

WATER/EAU , SODIUM LAURETH SULFATE , GLYCERIN , COCAMIDE MEA , SODIUM, CHLORIDE , PARFUM/FRAGRANCE , POLYSORBATE 20 , COCAMIDOPROPYL BETAINE, FRAGARIA VESCA (STRAWBERRY) FRUIT EXTRACT , PSIDIUM GUAJAVA FRUIT EXTRACT , DISODIUM EDTA , PEG-150 PENTAERYTHRITYL TETRASTEARATE, PHOSPHORIC ACID , METHYLCHLOROISOTHIAZOLINONE, METHYLISOTHIAZOLINONE

Packaging is simple and easy to open. You mostly smell the strawberries in this one and it's almost over the top sweet. The gel cleanses easily and foams up well, leaving my skin refreshed. It isn't particular moisturizing (one of the main ingredients is SLS, known for its cleansing properties but it also works drying) so I advice to use a cream afterwards. To sum it up this is a decent and good shower gel if you're fond of the scent, but don't expect wonders from it - it is a basic product.

Product Praise Avon Bubble Bath Vanilla Peach

Quite some time ago I already talked about Bubble Bath and expressed my love for it. As I stated before, Avon regularly releases new scents of this line that are often available for a limited time (about 6months or so). One of their latest releases is called "Vanilla Peach" and I couldn't resist writing about it, it smells like heaven...

I love vanilla and I love peach, combine them and my love doubles... At first the peach is most noticeable and afterwards the vanilla lingers on. This is my favourite scent amongst the line at this moment and I really hope they put it in their regular range, please don't keep this limited!!

You can buy it online in several countries or through a representative, for 1000ml you pay around 5euros. The product itself is pretty basic: it's not particularly moisturizing but it doesn't dry out your skin either. It produces bubbles and a lovely scent without irritating my skin, that's all I want...

If you have a chance, stick your nose into this scent - pure love!

Budget review Etos Douche Goij Berry Cupuazu

When I was in the Netherlands I ran into Etos, a drugstore, and noticed they had a promotion going on on their own line so I bought a couple of things to try, including this scrub. My pet peeve is shower gels so I try to work around it and lately I've been buying more scrubs - which is something totally different off course-! In sale this costed me 3euros for 200ml, if I recall correct, it wasn't much.

This scrub takes care of dead skin cells and cleanses your skin. The Goij Berry's origin is in China, it's rich in vitamines and minerals to help condition and protect the skin. The Cupuazu's origin is in Brasil, it's rich in vitamines and lipides to work calming and hydrating on the skin.

The packaging is a pink tube - I like pink - and looks very neat. The ingredients look ok, although it contains paraben on the lower part of the list. When opening the top, you immediately smell the sweet scent of this scrub, due to the berry in it. I enjoy this scent, but for some it may be a bit too much... The scrub is a very light pink with dark spickles in it, probably from the berry, to make it scrubable. It's a crème says the tube and this is really true: the product is thick and creamy. It states that you should use it on wet skin, but I found this didn't work that well - it glid on my skin without actually scrubbing it. When using it on dry skin however, it scrubs easily and leaves your skin very soft. Afterwards you can just wash it off.

The goods: sweet scent, good price

The bads: easily tired of scent, not the best scrub

Overall, I'm finishing this product and it's not bad but it's not that good either. It's quite annoying that it doesn't work well on wet skin. I like to use my scrubs while I'm in bath and not before hopping into it. I liked the scent in the beginning but lately I've grown a bit tired of it, maybe it's a bit too much for me as well. An ok product but not that special after all... Etos, you can do better!!

Review Avon senses Enchanted shower crème

I -mostly- like Avons bath and shower stuff *dang, surprised you there, didn't I?*, they have such lovely scents available. New scents are regularly released and whilst rubbing your wrist over the paper in the catalogue the scent catches your skin and you get a good idea of what it's like in real life. This is how I acquired this shower crème: it was released a few months ago, their "Enchanted" scent picturing a rainforest. I immediately loved it and ordered the small bottle of 250ml for 2 or 3euros.

It's a plastic assymetric bottle with a green top. The top opens easily and distributes the creme like it should. The creme has a velvet green colour and thick texture. But more important is the scent and yes, it is exactly what I pictured it to be. It has a sweet and yet tropical scent, it's hard to describe but this is one of the best scents I've ever used in bath in my life!!

Now, if it is so superb and all, why didn't I give it a Product Praise? Mainly because I use this crème a bit differently than it's intented. It's a shower crème, meaning to be used in the shower like a shower gel but only with a thicker and more moisturizing texture. However, I've been using it as a bath crème. It does foam up nicely, leaving me with lots of bubbles and smells delicious!

Negatives are the ingredients: SLS is second on the list - hence the foaming up, and alcohol denatol is halfway the ingredients list causing it to be drying for your skin. This is really dissapointing, because I'm very fond of the scent. I'm still contemplating whether I'll repurchase it or not...
Have you every come across a scent you adored but where the product was too dissapointing?

Budget Review Yves Rocher shower gel - florida orange

Everyone has their little shopping guilty pleasure thing, one of mine is shower gels... It has gone a bit too far, I've decided to put myself on a ban and am not allowed to buy any more shower gels untill I only have 1 or 2 left. Honestly, I probably have enough shower gels to use throughout this entire year... So far I'm succeeding and have almost finished this one - which I got as a freebie in the store -, one down only 5 or so more to go!!

Enjoy a moment of refreshing, stimulating pleasure under the shower with this gel!Florida oranges are renowned for their sweet, abundant juice. This delightful gel forms a lush lather, bursting with the energizing freshness of sunkissed oranges. When temperatures rise, refresh yourself with this invigorating scent! After the shower, your skin is soft and supple and imbued with the delicious scent of Florida Orange.

The packaging is simple and plastic with on orange top and sticker with oranges on it, nothing too fancy but nothing I didn't expect from a budget gel anyway. The lid doesn't open easily, this is a bit of a turnoff, after more usage it goes a bit better. Distribution of the -orange- gel is easy with the tiny hole in the top, with a good squeak you get enough of product for your entire body. It smells a lot like oranges but there's a tiny artificial scent to it when you sniff the bottle, but it doesn't disturb me while using it. The ingredient list looks good: doesn't contain alcohol - which is often the case with budget items - or parabens, however it does contain sulfates.

I've been using it for the last couple of weeks and it gets the job done: it cleanses your body but apart from that it doesn't do anything else such as add moisture or whatever claim you choose. Just a basic gel like I expected. As I mentioned above, I got this one as a freebie - if you want to buy it in the store it costs about 2-3euros for 200ml. But they do offer it often as a freebie with purchase if you're interested.

The goods: price, ingredients, does what a shower gel must do

The bads: opening lid, hint of artificial scent

I would buy this gel again, but in a different scent then. This orange one was ok but it didn't wow me over. If you like budget items and shower gels, you should check out this line - I'm sure you'll find something to your likings!

Never again: Avon Planet Spa Brown Sugar Body Scrub

Today a review of a mouthful product: the Avon Planet Spa African sheabutter brown sugar body scrub, wow, I just didn't want to put it as a whole in the title... Who comes up with these long names? I ordered it because I am a fan of brown sugar, I love the scent of it especially in the winter - I find it relaxing, calming etc. Avon has a Planet Spa line so you can perform your own little Spa at home, this line is more expensive than the rest of their stuff. I bought this product for 5euros in promotion and you get 150ml in return. Let's see if it's worth it...

This non-drying foaming scrub cleans and refreshes as it polishes to remove dry, flaky skin. Leaves skin velvety smooth and healthy looking. Massage over body in gentle circular motions, paying attention to rough areas, rinse. Use 1-2 times a week.

The product is packed in a plastic hard bottle with a lid that has a tiny hole when opened. On the outside of the bottle the product looks brown but when I put it on my hand you clearly see it has a white cast and only brown particles in it. Now, I have a first complaint: it is -nearly- impossible to get it out of the bottle through the tiny hole, you have to squeeze so hard (and the bottle is quite hard as well so squeezing already is difficult), it's just unreal. I had to take the lid of and squeeze again very hard to get some out of it, not userfriendly at all...
The scent reminds me of brown sugar with an artificial hint to it. I think it's the plastic that gives it that scent, didn't like it that much but maybe other people wouldn't mind it. The product itself is a basic scrub that scrubs, it doesn't foam as much as it claims it will do and it doesn't leave my skin feeling smoother than other products. It didn't irritate my skin and left it cleaned after usage. Analysis:

The goods: it scrubs and cleanses, doesn't irritate

The bads: packaging, artificial scent, poor result, price

Overall this is a missed opportunity from Avon, with better packaging this product could be better but I would still think it's overpriced - without promotion 10euros. I expected more...

Product Praise: Mylène bain mousse à la Rose

About a year ago a friend of mine invited me to her Mylène evening, filled with beauty products. My mother knew the brand by name but no specific products, both of us were really curious. The representative from Mylène was a really nice lady, she went over some products with us - passed them - and afterwards if we saw something on the list that we found interesting she would dive in her suitcase to get it... They have a lot of products and going over everything step by step is just plain boring.

I bought a few products, as I was still sceptical, but one of them got my major attention as I immediately fell in love with it... bain mousse à la Rose. While talking about their path products she passed on samples of the different foams (they also have lavendel and so on), I smelled this one and said: got to have it!

The product comes in a box, displaying roses and purplepink font. In the box is the glass bottle, which is done to preserve the ingredients and the scent better. You pay 15,10euro for 500ml, which is cheap because... I bought this bottle last year (it was filled almost to the top) , have used it multiple times each month and you see the result - still have a lot left, 1/3. The product is really concentrated, if you open it the scent of the roses comes up and is really strong, but as you only need a tiny amount of it the scent becomes lighter and oh so delicious when put into your bath. It has a pink satin colour, again roses. And it foams up in bath just the way I want it - I like big foamy baths. It leaves my skin feeling soft, it doesn't dry it out as much as other foam products do but afterwards I still need to put on body lotion/butter as I have dry skin.

If you're a fan of roses, check this product. I can no longer live without it. Available through Mylène representatives, you can check their website.

Budget review: Eldena Peeling Gel

I'm a huge fan of shower gels and stuff, I have way too many but I love buying them. Usually the scent wins me over and I give in... To me, a shower gel doesn't have to have a price tag.

While I was shopping in Aldi, a discount store, I saw one of their weekly offers being a peeling gel in 2 versions -regular and sensitive-. I immediately spotted the pink packaging of the sensitive one, opened it, my nose liked it and then I put it in my bag... Price tag: 2euro, if I recall correct.

You get a 200ml tube for this price, quite good. Packaging is simple, but I like it. On front of the tube it also says it contains shea butter and jojoba oil, lovely ingredients to me! On the back the product doesn't claim much, only that it will eliminate dead skin cells and transform you skin into soft moisturized glowing skin. Exactly what a peeling should do.

The product is white grainy with some pink spots in it, if you look at the swatch you can see a couple of them. As I said, the product has a nice scent: shea butter with a hint of rose in it. I've been using it for a few months now, it does its job well although it could be more grainy but for this price tag I'll just use a bit more :). I have sensitive skin and my skin didn't get irritated by it.
Sadly I'm running out of it and Aldi only offers it once a year so I'll have to wait a few more months to get it again, I'll be buying more this time to stock up for a year...

Are there products you stock/have stocked upon?

Product Praise: Avon Bubble Bath

In product praise I'll talk about products that work wonders for me. I'm going to kick it off with a product I've been using non-stop for several years.

Avon Cosmetics, maybe it rings a bell, maybe it doesn't. You can buy it online if you live in the UK or in the US. I order it through a friend of mine. Some of their products are great, others are complete mistakes (warning -with a high voltage-!).

One of their most famous products is the Bubble Bath, the name already speaks on its own. It will make your bath burst with bubbles along with a divine scent. The product is available in 2 sizes: 500ml or 1litre and the price is hardly worth mentioning, it's very very cheap! I've been using it for several years now and I always have a few scents in my bathroom. They offer more than 10 scents, some of them are limited.

These are the scents I currently have:

  • Pearly Peach: a nice soft peachy smell, accordingly in a soft orange color - this is one of my favorite scents
  • Strawberries & Cream: smells like strawberry yoghurt, a soft pink color, I expected more of it but it's ok - won't repurchase this scent
  • Sweet Candy: smells like candy - more specific bonbons -, a plain white color, lovely scent

Even though these products are intended to use in bath, I've also read that you can use it to wash your car, clean your windows, clean the floor... and that it has a good result along with a nice scent. Off course I had to try this but I'm not that enthusiastic about using it for cleaning, I'll stick by my bath!

Do you know this product/use it/...?
